I wanna know what people think about the Obama administrations healthcare reform plan. What have you heared? Will it work? Are you for or against it?

Personally I think that it is a great idea. With the way the private health insurance companies are today, healthcare is almost absolutely unfordable, and thats with a job that may or may not supply health plans. If you are unemployed or have a pre-existing condition, forget about it.

So tell me, what do you think?

Public health care is a good idea, but they will still fuck it up, because democrats can't do anything right, and republicans won't do anything right. It's going to be a huge fucking mess. Medicare how it is now is already fucking crazy screwed up, i can't imagine how fucked up it will be for everyone. Really I think they should crack down on insurance abuse more than government funded health care, maybe allow more people on medicare or whatever.

The Medicare thing is a good point. I just think that if they do this it really will help the economy. You see, with Medicare and Medicaid it didn't really have any real effect on the economy because they were made for people who are either high risk for normal health insurance (read: their old) or couldn't afford health insurance to begin with. Now, with this plan being open to everyone, it really will help the economy by increasing competition. The private companies will have to lower their rates to keep customers. The markets for insurance will become more competitive and the everyone will benefit. Right now there are only a few companies that actually do medical coverage anyway, so whats the problem with adding one more? So what if its run by the government? Hell, GM is practically run by the government, that doesn't stop people from buying their next Chevy.

government healthcare doesn't work in Canada or England there's so no reason it would work for us.

How can you say Englands healthcare system doesnt work?

We live longer than Americans.
We have a lower percentage of obese and overwieght people than America.
We have a lower infant mortality rate than America.

Isnt that the true goal of any healthcare system? to improve the health of its population?

Unfordable thats awesome. Government healthcare will be better than no healthcare at all, which is what most people have now. So even though its not perfect and may be "unfordable" for the government to provide such healthcare. It's better to have a broke government and healthy citizens than a rich government that most citizens are to sick to enjoy, as far as I'm concerned.

I am for socialized medicine, but Obama's plan is a lame watered down version of that. It will only appease some people instead of doing what healthcare should, maintaining a societies health. Obama caves way to easily to the pressures of right wingers who insist on keeping America 50 years behind. The Canadian, British and Cuban healthcare systems are miles ahead of ours and I think that it's our duty as Americans not only to make ours equal to their but better. We have the resources to provide top of the line state of the art healthcare to every American citizen so I say we do it!

Everyone deserves good healthcare but the government can't do anything right so everyone won't get good health care.

I agree with most of what you said. On the Obama front, I would have to say that even though it may be watered down, its still a step in the right direction. So many people don't realize that with all of the money we invest in things like the war in Iraq, that we could easily fund this kind of healthcare system. I mean, I know its important to keep the country safe and all, but why not try doing that by making our country healthy and smarter instead of making people hate us by throwing massive amounts of money into a war that maybe we should never have gotten into in the first place. The war in Afghanistan I can agree with, although nothing would have had to have been done in the first place if we didn't fund the Taliban in the first place. Anyway, thats off topic. If people who are shouting about the cost of healthcare would look at what the war funding and other funding that isn't going to the people is costing us, they wouldn't really have much to complain about. The government should be for the people of the country, not just a select few. So far as I can see, this healthcare reform is one of the only programs actually for every person in the nation.
